Titilaka is strategically located on a private peninsula in Titilaka, Puno. Bounded by scenic Andean landscapes and one of the most exceptional geographic locations of the highland plateaus, it reminds us of the Scottish highlands or the Patagonia, with clear crisp blue air and intense sunlight on the vast pastures. Titilalka is located on the western Peruvian coast of Lake Titicaca, amidst small hamlets of Quechua and Aymara cultures scattered around the lake or at the base of small hills to protect themselves from the high winds and strong sun. The hotel has its own private road and small jetty and an outstanding view of both sunrises and sunsets over the lake.
Lake Titicaca is the world’s highest lake navigable to large vessels, at 12,500 feet (3,810 m) above sea level in the Andes Mountains of South America, astride the border between Peru to the west and Bolivia to the east. It covers some 3,200 square miles (8,300 square km), is 50 miles (80 km) across at its widest point, with an average depth of 107 meters.
Titilaka is located 2 hours from Juliaca airport by car and boat, 45 minutes south of the city of Puno and 40 minutes by boat from the Taquile and Amantani islands, between Puno and the Bolivian border. It can be reached in approximately 5 hours by car and 10 hours by train from Cusco, and approximately 6 hours by car from Arequipa. You can also arrive at Titilaka via Bolivia just 2 hours driving.

INCA ANATAWI: Your excursion begins with a car ride south of Titilaka. You will then climb a slight ascent by foot, up a rocky mountain, to reach the remains of an Inca Trail. There, you will find some polished stone seats, which were finely carved out of large rocks. This is a vantage point to enjoy the panoramic view of the vast lake. After your descent, visit the local community and view their colorful textiles.

ROWING THROUGH THE REEDS: Take a rowboat or kayak excursion through the totora reed near the hotel. The totora reeds are aquatic plants used by the locals for different purposes ranging from construction to food. Just like land, the reed areas are divided among the villagers, who every so often harvest them for various uses. The reeds also provide a special ecosystem for birds such as wrens, grebes, moorhens and egrets.

BIRD WATCHING: Lake Titicaca is part of the RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands, a conservation and protection of the wetlands and its wildlife. Here, you can find more than 60 species of birds, including waterfowl, shore birds, and others found inland. Depending on the season, you can see migratory birds such as flamingos, shorebirds, aquatic birds, and others. You may also see the resident birds such as a variety of ducks, herons, and grebens. From the Titilaka Hotel one can see the Titicaca grebes (Rollandia microptera), endemic birds to the Titicaca Basin (Peru and Bolivia) in their natural habitat. They are in danger of extinction according to CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). The Bird Watching route is determined according to the season and location by monitoring the habitats frequented by these birds.

TAQUILE: Take a boat ride to the island of Taquile, where you can see the beautiful snow peaked mountain ranges of Cordillera Real in Bolivia. This traditional island is inhabited by people of Quechua origin, as opposed to the majority of population of Puno who are of Aymara origin. Taquile is its own world, completely detached from the rest of the world. The inhabitants maintain their ancient Quechua traditions. The scenery is stunning. The red soil contrasts with the intense blue of the lake. The sky provides a striking background with the snowcapped mountains of the Cordillera Real. On the higher part of the island are remains of ancient stone buildings, somewhat like houses and roads.

UROS: Enjoy a guided visit to the Uros floating islands on Lake Titicaca. Located on the National Reserve of Titicaca on the Bay of Puno, these islands are made from totora reeds. They are home to the Uros community, which pre-dates the Inca civilization. They call themselves kot-suña or people of the lake. They claim to have "black blood", as they are consequently immune to the cold, and consder themselves the owners of the lake and its waters. They continue surviving economically on the islands through fishing, weaving, and now tourism.

SILLUSTANI: Enjoy a guided excursion to Sillustani, a peninsula facing the Umayo lagoon, only a short distance from Puno. This site was a burial ground for the Pucara, Tiahuanaco, and Ccolla pre-Inca cultures. They lived in the region at different times, long before the Inca expansion. The tower-like structures known as Chullpas, which symbolize life and birth, are impressive ancient tombs from the pre-Inca period. They served as burial places for chiefs and other important people. Later, the Incas inhabited the site and made their own versions of these towers. This is why there are two types of chullpas: the rough, smaller pre-Inca towers, and the smooth, larger Inca towers. The largest tower took about 50 years to construct, and consists of rocks weighing anywhere from 2 to 6 tons. This is an interesting site to visit, which combines archaeology, history and the rustic landscape.

MOUNTAIN BIKING TO INCA ANATAWI: With a high demanding difficulty level, this excursion takes you on an approximately two-hour bike ride through the local communities towards Inca Anatawi, the chosen name for the remains of this Inca Trail. It is built upon the edge of a rocky mountain. The ascent up the Inca Trail is moderate, although you may have some difficulty after your bike ride. The view from the top is beautiful. There you will find some seats, which were finely carved out of a rock. After the descent, you may enjoy some refreshing snacks before your return to the hotel.

LOCAL FESTIVAL: Puno is the folkloric capital of Peru. The fusion of Catholic and Andean beliefs has created an intense tradition of festival celebration as a part of its culture and customs. PERKA: Start the excursion by sailing west of Titilaka towards the totora reeds, and observe these aquatic plants that are still used by locals in their daily tasks. Continue to the shores of Chucuito Peninsula. Here you will have an opportunity to see shore birds such as ducks, Andean gulls, flamingos, and grebes. Then visit the homes and farmlands of the locals. Perka is a quiet community that doesn't have any connection with tourism. You can enjoy its beaches and some aperitifs on the shores of the lake in the relaxing peaceful ambience.

INCA ANATAWI, ARAMU MURO, JULI AND POMATA: This excursion begins by visiting Inca Anatawi. You will take a car ride south of Titilaka, and then ravel up a rocky mountain by foot to reach and interesting Inca Trail remain. Here you will find some polished stone seats, which were finely carved out of large rocks. This is a vantage point for enjoying the panoramic view of the vast lake. After your descent, visit the local community and view their colorful textiles. Continue the journey south to visit the doorway of Aramu Muro, believed to be aninter-dimensional portal by local shamans. Then, visit the beautiful colonial churches of Juli and Pomata. These were the center of evangelization int he highland plateaus. The churches boast striking architecture, gold-leafed altars, remarkably maintained paintings of the viceroyalty era, and massive bells that still toll up to today.
