Peru’s cuisine scene set to excite Australians

Peruvian renowned chef Gaston Acurio will spice up the Sydney dining scene, when he visits Australia this weekend as part of the Crave Sydney International Food Festival.

Acurio will be taking part in Crave Sydney International Food Festival’s World Chef Showcase, where he will share his skills, knowledge, and passion for Peruvian food with the public, in an interactive session at Hilton Sydney.

Acurio will take part in the showcase THE STORY OF CHOCOLATE AND PERU: Today Lima, tomorrow the world, on October 2.

Additionally, he is also participating in one of the event’s showcase dinners on October 4 - Gastronomic Peru at Bilson's Restaurant.

The Peruvian restaurateur will be preparing a special Peruvian degustation menu alongside fellow Peruvian chef, Diego Muñoz, from Bilson’s Restaurant who has recently been nominated for ‘Chef of the Year’ by SMH Good Food Guide.  This dinner will provide Sydney diners with the unique opportunity to savour Peruvian cuisine from two of its finest chefs.

Peru’s Tourism Board coordinator for Asia Pacific, Rosana Guinea comments, “The growing profile and popularity of Peruvian cuisine can be largely attributed to the efforts of Gastón Acurio. Sydney is well-known as a city of food-lovers, making it the perfect place for Gastón to showcase the rich flavours, international influences, fresh produce, and passion that define Peru’s gastronomy.”

“Lima in particular is now highly regarded as the gastronomic capital of Latin America and more travellers are heading to this city to sample the cuisine on offer. As Gaston’s reputation and influence continues to grow, and as more people experience the tantalising Peruvian cuisine, this is something we only expect to increase.”

Gaston Acurio owns 30 restaurants around the world, in Madrid, New York and Lima, including La Mar Cebicheria Peruana, Tanta, Panchita, Chicha, Madam Tusan, and Astrid & Gastón.

In addition to this, he also has 20 publications in his portfolio, a weekly cable TV show. In 2011 Acurio’s restaurant Astrid&Gastón was included in the San Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants list.
