Pucallpa, Aug. 05 (ANDINA).
The development of a flagship airline will promote regional integration and domestic tourism in the Peruvian Amazon jungle, said Ucayali's Governor Jorge Velasquez.
"I welcome the initiative taken by President Ollanta Humala to have a national flagship airline as it will promote competitiveness in commercial aviation market and allow reducing the price of airline tickets," Velasquez told Andina.
The governor noted that the initiative will also contribute to the growth of adventure and community-based tourism in the Ucayali department, located 840 kilometers east of Lima.
"Ucayali has beautiful natural scenery, but many times tourists can not discover it because the cost of airfare is very high," he said.
During his July 28 inaugural address to the nation, President
Humala said his government would take the necessary measures so that Peru has its own national airline with the objective of expanding the country's transportation sector and create more competition.
