Yurimaguas, Aug. 04 (ANDINA).
The city of Yurimaguas, located in Peru's northern Loreto department, expects to attract some 5,000 domestic tourists during its 16th Tourist Week, for which different activities have been scheduled.
The provincial municipality of Alto Amazonas said Wednesday that visitors will be able to see an Olympics of native peoples and an International Festival of Amazon Dances, in which delegations from Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela will participate.
The event, which will take place from August 5 to 15, is to begin on Friday with the presentation of some music and dance groups who will parade through main streets of the city.
Throughout the tourist week there will also be a food and handicraft fair; a singing, painting and photography competition. Furthermore, public and private institutions, social organizations and native communities will participate in a float contest on August 14.
“This is one of the most important events here, as it enables us to revalue our customs and strengthen our identity,” said Alan Rodriguez, member of the education, culture, and tourism and sports board of the municipality.
