Tacna, Aug. 01 (ANDINA).
Peru's southernmost region of Tacna received nearly 12,000 visitors a day during the recent Independence Day holiday weekend, according to the regional trade and tourism office.
Tourism director Christian Riveros told Andina that most visitors were Chileans who wanted to enjoy the local cuisine and avail of the special deals in the city's many shopping centers.
Visitors also had the opportunity to tour popular attractions such as the medicinal hot springs of Tarata and the scenic natural beauty of Ilabaya in Tacna's Andean highlands.
Riveros pointed out that there were also some tourists who passed by the city on their way to neighboring regions like Arequipa, Cusco and Puno.
