Lima, Jul. 14 (ANDINA). Over two million people will travel around Peru during the national holidays due to the greater purchasing power of the population and the celebrations for the centennial anniversary of the scientific discovery of Machu Picchu, the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) said.
The celebrations for the centennial anniversary of Machu Picchu are without doubt the main attraction for tourists who travel to Cusco and the engine of the tourist flow this year, said the President of the CCLs Tourism Committee (Comtur) Alvaro Benavides.
However, Benavides warned that the next administration will have a hard task to further develop this historic attraction, and this way promoting Peru as a world tourist destination.
Aguas Calientes needs to be reorganized and also they need to improve the access to the historic sanctuary. Tourism development is an important pillar for the growth of the countrys economy, so the next administration must accept the challenge, he said.
Moreover, Benavides noted that the tourism flow will show a similar level to the one registered in 2010.
