Inti Raymi tickets almost sold out

Cusco, Jun. 07 (ANDINA). About 80 percent of tickets for the Inti Raymi, or Festival of the Sun, in Cusco have been sold to date, local authorities announced Tuesday. The head of Cusco's Empresa Municipal de Festejos (Emufec), Oscar Alzamora, told Andina that tourists are purchasing their tickets online for the first time.

A total of 3,850 tickets were available this year with prices ranging between 70 and 110 dollars depending upon seating choices.

According to Alzamora, tourists from Europe, Asia and Latin America have shown great interest in attending one of Peru's most important festivals of the year.

This ‘Festival of the Sun’, South America’s 2nd largest festival, takes place every 24th of June, and offers tourists the chance to mingle with locals during this spectacular and colourful cultural event.

On site, the Inti Raymi festival sees hundreds of actors re-enacting ancient celebrationsin which the Incas gathered to worship the Sun God during the winter solstice to mark the New Year.
