Peru Travel News: More than 100 000 tourist to visit Huaca de la Luna this year

Trujillo. Nov. 21 (ANDINA). More than 100.000 Peruvian and foreign tourists are expected to visit the Huaca de la Luna (Temple of the the Moon) in the northern coast of Peru by the end of 2010. according to the archaeological site's tourism promotion office.

The large adobe brick structure built by the Moche civilization was visited by 90.426 tourist as of October 31. July and October were the busiest months with 15.626 and 14.189 visitors. respectively.

According to official records. the site has attracted a total of 25.543 foreigners. including 4.994 from the United States. 2.694 from France. and 2.170 from Spain. among other countries.

As for domestic tourists. most tourists came from the coastal regions of La Libertad (25.952) and Lima (24.482).

More than a million people visited the Huaca since it opened its doors in 1995. 70 percent of whom were domestic travelers and the rest foreigners.
