Peru Travel News: Alleged large sized geoglyphs discovered near Lake Titicaca

Puno. Oct. 13 (ANDINA). Italian researcher Amelia Carolina Sparavigna. from the Politecnico di Torino Physics Department. discovered. near Lake Titicaca. what appears to be a group of large-sized geoglyphs by using Google Earth satellite imagery.

According to her. geoglyhs are located in an enormous network of earthworks covering 120.000 hectares of land near the lake. which features structures that seem to symbolize birds with ponds as their eyes.

Some of the landforms have a clear symbolic meaning and can be considered as geoglyphs. The figure of a condor stands out among them.

This network of earthworks would be part of the remains of an extensive ancient agricultural system built and used centuries ago by Andean peoples. who created a system of terraced hills and raised fields with the corresponding drainage channels.

This system improved soil conditions. as well as temperature and moisture conditions for crops.

These remains of the prehistoric agricultural system would provide evidence of the impressive engineering abilities of the peoples who lived there in pre-Hispanic times.
