Lima. Aug. 04 (ANDINA). Andean Railways announced it will start to compete on Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu trips since August 20. under the commercial name of ‘Machu Picchu Train’. while reservations and tickets will start to be sold as of August 10.
After conducting different technical inspections on the road to Machu Picchu. the company carried out its first trip with passengers to the citadel. and got ready to operate commercially and compete with Inca Rail and PeruRail since this month.
‘The trip with passengers was very satisfactory. both in the technical and operative level. under the standard of security and high quality that we established.’ said Jose Daniel Amado. executive president of Andean Railways.
In August. a 54-passengers-capacity autocoach will start to operate and in early November a total of three autocoaches will circulate. increasing the offer of services up to 250 passengers a day.
‘Andean Railways is planning new investments for 2011. turning the company into a main player in this market.’ Amado said.
