Arequipa. Aug. 01 (ANDINA). Colca Valley. located in Arequipa. received a record number of 4.228 Peruvian and foreign tourists between July 27 and 29. the head of Colca Autonomous Authority (AutoColca) Jose Talavera said Sunday.
The official said that only on Thursday 29. Colca welcomed 1.575 tourists. which is the highest number of visitors so far this year.
‘In other holidays. Colca receives an average of 800 to 1.000 tourists a day. numbers that were exceeded during these national holidays. which confirms the people’s expectations for visiting this natural area of Arequipa.’
Out of the 4.228 tourists welcomed during the country’s independence holidays. 2.709 were Peruvians. especially from Lima. and 1.519 were foreigners. mostly from Europe.
The inflow of tourists in the Colca Valley is fast growing. which is why we improve the services in coordination with travel agencies. hotels and restaurants; as well as with the villagers who offer craftworks and accommodations to develop the rural community-based tourism. added Talavera.
The Colca Valley. located 165 km north of the Andean city of Arequipa. is a land of beautiful places surrounded by terraces. snow peaks and old towns founded in the 16th century. It is also one of the world's deepest canyon and home of the majestic Condor.
