Juliaca. Jul. 21 (ANDINA). The Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) in Juliaca (Puno) plans a two-day tour across Lake Titicaca Tours – Uros. Taquile. and Amantani Islands for Peru’s Independence Day holidays with the aim of promoting community-based tourism.
According to Yolanda Coila Monteagudo. a Juliaca-based Dircetur official. this iniciative seeks to promote visits from Juliaca 'Ciudad de Los Vientos' (The City of the Wind) to Lake Titicaca.
The tour starts at 7.00 hours in July 28th from Zarumilla square in Juliaca to Escallani accommodation located in Lake Titicaca shores and then from Escallani port to Amantani island.
Amantani island is located near Capachica peninsula and is characterized by shrub plants such as la muña (an excellent herbal tea). kantuta (the national flower of Peru). and patamuña.
On July 29th. participants will travel to Taquile and Uros islands to finally reach Puno.
Taquile Island is located beyond Puno bay. in the large lake. surrounded by Capachica and Chucuito peninsulas and it is one of the most popular places for foreign visitors.
The Uros are also known as 'Kostuña' (Lake town) and trace their origins back to the Inca era. They subsist by fishing. making beautiful handicrafts and hunting lake birds.
'The tour costs US$29 and offers a unique opportunity to explore Lake Titicaca - a sacred place for the Inca civilization.' Coila Monteagudo added.
