Lima. Jul. 15 (ANDINA). The XXII Eco-Tourism Festival Gran Chavin 2010 will take place on July 28-30 gathering over 100 national and foreign competitors eager to participate in three different sport activities to support the promotion of the tourist attractions and the gastronomy of the Callejon de Conchucos in Ancash. northern Peru.
Callejón de Conchucos is a valley in the Cordillera Blanca mountain range in the Ancash region of Peru. The valley is the home of the archaeological site of the remains of Chavín de Huantar. which dates from the year 900 A.D.. and was a ceremonial center in which human sacrifices were made.
Mayor of the province of Huari Herbert Solis Alcedo said that the event wants to promote Conchucos as a tourist destination. as well as rescue and preserve its natural and cultural resources.
'We want to promote alternative tourist destinations to the ones already known in Ancash. taking advantage of sports. because our geography provides a great environment to practice adventure sports.' he said.
Tourist attractions and gastronomy of San Marcos and Huantar -districts of Chavin de Huantar- located in the province of Huari. will also be promoted during the event.
The festival is organized by the Municipalities of Huari. Chavín de Huántar. San Marcos; the Tourism Chamber of Chavín. the National Institute of Culture (INC). among other institutions
