Lima. Jul. 07 (ANDINA). Peruvian authorities in Machu Picchu. Cusco. celebrated the Inca citadel’s third anniversary as one of the new seven wonders of the world with a 'Payment to the Earth' ceremony.
The Inca-style ceremony was carried out at 06:00 hours (11:00 GMT) in Machu Picchu and attended by Mayor Edgard Miranda Quiñones and other local authorities.
Peruvian and foreign tourists enjoyed a parade of local institutions and an artistic performance with diverse groups of musicians and dancers.
Last Sunday. chefs of many local restaurants participated in a gastronomic contest featuring typical dishes.
On July 7. 2007. Machu Picchu was voted as one of the new seven wonders of the worlds following a global contest by the New 7 Wonders Foundation.
Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1983.
