Lima. Jul. 01 (ANDINA). About 5.500 tourists visited the Peruvian region of Arequipa during the last long holiday weekend of July 26-29. the head of Arequipa’s Hotel and Restaurant Association. Rafael Cornejo. said Thursday.
The number of Peruvian and foreign visitors shows a 10 percent increase compared to tourist arrivals during other holiday periods.
According to Rafael Cornejo. the majority of tourists were Peruvians coming from Lima and other southern cities.
Some of the most visited places included the Colca Valley. Santa Catalina Convent. Arequipa's countryside (campiña Arequipa) and the 'Loncco' Route (villages and the countryside).
Another highlight during the four-day holiday weekend in late June was a culinary festival called 'Sabores de Antaño' (Ancient Flavors) which was attended by over 12.000 people.
